During BET’s celebration of the Obamas, someone, I believe it was Angela Bassett or Regina Hall, who mentioned that the couple’s greatest contributions to the country just might come after they leave the White House.
It was a sentiment that made me feel quite good. It’s nice to know that the impact of our favorite first couple won’t cease to exist once they vacate 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue. We can tell by the passion with which these two have served, that it won’t all come to a halt after January 20th.
In their last few days in office, it would be easy for Mr. and Mrs. Obama to kick back, pack and get ready to relax. Instead, they’re still working for the people. Recently Mrs. Obama surprised students at Luke C. Moore high school in Washington, D.C. with a visit. And while there, she made sure to drop some words of wisdom.

“There is no magic that gets you here other than hard work and just believing.” “There were people who didn’t think I could do what I’m doing now. They told me I shouldn’t apply to the colleges that I applied to. But I want you all to understand that you cannot let that define you.”
Then today, the First Lady delivered her final speech as first lady of the United States.
“Our glorious diversity— our diversities of faiths, colors and creeds— that is not a threat to who we are, it makes us who we are.”
I want you to remember that in this country plenty of folks, including me and my husband, we started out with very little. But with a lot of work and a good education, anything is possible—even becoming president. That’s what the American dream is all about.”

And as she concluded her remarks, she got very emotional and fought back tears.

We couldn't be any prouder of Mrs. Obama. And while we know this won't be the last time we see or hear from her, it's so sad to see her go.
