You have probably seen charismatic 7 year old actress Alyssa Cheatham in the film ‘Collateral Beauty’ playing Will Smith’s character’s daughter. In addition to being a young actress on the rise, this bright young lady also sings and models. We chatted with her recently to find out what she’s up to.
Alyssa was so excited to shoot her debut video, “The Weekend”.
People don’t want to wake up. Sometimes I have a test at 9 and I get nervous.
We all reminisce about the weekend and want to go back to Saturday and Sunday, especially on Monday’s.
“Take me back to the weekend where the party don’t stop and the fun never ends.”
Alyssa was very excited about this video. Her team made sure to cast kids of color with natural hair since they are underrepresented in media. As for Alyssa’s look, the mom/daughter duo collaborated on her “school girl glam” look and her branding.
On School
Even though this young actress/singer is continuing to make moves in music and Hollywood, school comes first. She comes home with stellar report cards. Alyssa says,
I work hard and focus. I like acting AND I like doing my work at school.
While many young stars are home-schooled, Alyssa attends public school. Socialization is important to her mom. Sharra explains, “If she doesn’t do well in school, she knows there are no auditions”.
On Fame
Kids come up to me in school and say, “Alyssa Cheatham, I saw you in this movie.” They keep seeing my commercials and they saw my music video. I am just myself. I don’t let that get to me. I am nice to everyone.
On Inspiring Women
While Alyssa may be 7, she’s traveled to different schools to speak and has been an inspiration to young girls all over.
I speak to kids my age and older. I motivate them to follow their dreams. I tell them to keep working hard and always have confidence in what you are doing.
When asked about the women in her life, she states:
They are very strong and follow their dreams
On New Edition
I love New Edition. My mom gets tired of me singing their songs. My favorite New Edition song is ‘Candy Girl’. I think it’s a classic hit. It has the raps, it has the skits. ‘Is This The End’ is my 2nd favorite song.
Alyssa has great taste! She wants New Edition to come to her 8th birthday party!
On Upcoming Projects
I just booked 3 movies!
She will be playing a young Gugu Mbatha-Raw in ‘Irreplaceable You’ currently in production.
We can’t wait to see Alyssa’s upcoming projects!
