On Monday, the news came out that Carmelo and La La Anthony had separated. A day later, it was reported that Carmelo cheated and is accused of impregnating another woman. But a few days before all of this very sad news broke, La La appeared optimistic about what the future might hold for not only Carmelo’s basketball career, but also where it would take them as a family.
On Friday, while shooting promo for the VH1 Dear Mama special that she’s hosting with Anthony Anderson on May 8, La La was visited by Access Hollywood. She was asked about the possibility of having to pick up and move if Carmelo left the New York Knicks to go to another team.
“Whatever is meant to be will be,” she said. “I’m a firm believer in that. I’ll make it work.”
And when speaking on where he might end up, she replied, “I don’t know. I know that he’s still figuring it out. We’re figuring it out as a family. Whatever happens is meant to be.”
While she didn’t let on that there was any trouble at home, we couldn’t help but notice that La La’s personality during this interview wasn’t as bright and bubbly as it usually is and that she definitely appears a little sad. As reports stated, La La moved out of the home they shared last week and has a new space in New York.
The latest conversations surround Carmelo’s reported $200+ million made in the NBA and through partnerships with the Jordan brand and Foot Locker. According to TMZ, the estranged couple have a prenuptial agreement in place that heavily protects him. However, it can still be challenged, especially if there is a “cheating clause” and La La decides to prove that he did in fact step out on their marriage. TMZ says, in most cases, challenges often end with the person with the most money cutting their estranged spouse a healthy check. But, as a reminder, the couple is only separated as of right now. And despite there being rumors that they probably won’t reconcile, we will have to wait and see how things turn out.
