The other day, the <a href="https://www.instagram.com/idontdoclubs/">I Don't Do Clubs Instagram account</a> posted this picture and quote from the late, great Malcolm X. It so accurately speaks to what's going on in our country right now, that it's almost as if Malcolm were somehow watching this sideshow of an election cycle and speaking his mind from beyond the grave. <blockquote class="instagram-media" style="background: #FFF; border: 0; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: 0 0 1px 0 rgba(0,0,0,0.5),0 1px 10px 0 rgba(0,0,0,0.15); margin: 1px; max-width: 658px; padding: 0; width: calc(100% - 2px);" data-instgrm-captioned="" data-instgrm-version="7"> <div style="padding: 8px;"> <div style="background: #F8F8F8; line-height: 0; margin-top: 40px; padding: 44.06666666666666% 0; text-align: center; width: 100%;"></div> <p style="margin: 8px 0 0 0; padding: 0 4px;"><a style="color: #000; font-family: Arial,sans-serif; font-size: 14px; font-style: normal; font-weight: normal; line-height: 17px; text-decoration: none; word-wrap: break-word;" href="https://www.instagram.com/p/BPXWoMhBniv/" target="_blank">Remember. #tomslist</a></p> <p style="color: #c9c8cd; font-family: Arial,sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 17px; margin-bottom: 0; margin-top: 8px; overflow: hidden; padding: 8px 0 7px; text-align: center; text-overflow: ellipsis; white-space: nowrap;">A photo posted by I Don't Do Clubs (@idontdoclubs) on <time style="font-family: Arial,sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 17px;" datetime="2017-01-17T12:07:25+00:00">Jan 17, 2017 at 4:07am PST</time></p> </div></blockquote> <script async defer src="//platform.instagram.com/en_US/embeds.js"></script> But <a href="https://books.google.com/books?id=IX02RSLJrcoC&pg=PA411&lpg=PA411&dq=The+first+thing+he+does+when+he+comes+in+power,+he+takes+all+the+Negro+leaders+and+invites+them+for+coffee.+To+that+he’s+all+right.+And+those+Uncle+Toms+can’t+pass+up+the+coffee.+They+come+away+from+the+coffee+table+telling+you+and+me+that+this+man+is+all+right.&source=bl&ots=thALa_4yQV&sig=-KXpO-5BzIlMw3JxYgxafyc21Qo&hl=en&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwiu68GHwczRAhVl2IMKHcdgB7EQ6AEILDAD#v=onepage&q=coffee&f=false">Malcolm said this in 1964</a>, speaking specifically about Lyndon B. Johnson, asking Black folk why the politicians we loved, the ones who seemed to be working for us, couldn't seem to pass any legislation that would mean anything to Black folk. Perhaps, it's a question we'll be asking all the Black celebrities who have met with or lent their support to Donald Trump in the past few months.
